A little piece of China in Japan on an American's webpage.
anothergate.jpg 35 Kb 1/19/99 5:47:35 PM 300 x 480 Here is one of the gates that mark the entrance to Chinatown in Yokohama. They are very colorful, but tend to get lost drowned out by the surrounding buildings. |
![]() chestnuts.jpg 55.63 Kb 1/19/99 5:40:00 PM 602 x 480 What can I say - chestnuts - mmmmm. These are roasted in some king of black pebble. I thought at first it was coffee (looked and smelled the same). These are delicious, but a little expensive. I think anything that comes in a nice package is expensive. It has something to do with the whole gift giving requirement. |
![]() dragon.jpg 80.60 Kb 1/19/99 6:22:31 PM 640 x 460 Here is a nice golden dragon and my friend Noriko, who was an excellent guide. |
![]() frontgate.jpg 44.64 Kb 1/19/99 5:37:03 PM 328 x 480 Welcome to Chinatown (it might actually say that). |
![]() mailman.jpg 46.71 Kb 1/19/99 5:35:23 PM 464 x 480 Just a side note: This is the way mail is delivered in Tokyo. |
![]() moreneon.jpg 62.32 Kb 1/19/99 6:13:37 PM 515 x 480 The neon was incredible at night. Is it a Chinese thing or Japanese thing? I guess I'll have to go to China to find out. |
![]() neon.jpg 69.81 Kb 1/19/99 5:43:36 PM 574 x 473 More night neon - you really don't get the full effect, but it was really nice. |
![]() nikuman.jpg 55.24 Kb 1/19/99 5:50:02 PM 640 x 480 Get your steaming hot nikuman here! These dough-stuffed-with-mystery-meat treats are called "manapua" in Hawaii. |
![]() steamprop.jpg 50.59 Kb 1/19/99 5:45:39 PM 552 x 480 Just a cool prop at the front gate. There are other such gizmos all over. I just added this to help flavor the page. |
